People assume the black is the problem. The black is fine. The problem is that most cheap black clothing is thick cotton or polyester, and both behave like insulation the moment you step outside.
Weave beats colour every time
Loose rayon, mesh, open-knit and anything with visible weave will move air. Heavy cotton jersey will not, regardless of what colour it is dyed.
I own black things I can wear at midday and black things that are strictly after dark, and the difference between them is entirely the fabric, never the shade.
Layering is a night activity
The layered silhouette everyone associates with the look is a cold-climate silhouette. Here it works from about 8pm onward and not one minute earlier.
During the day I get the same effect with one structured piece and a lot of hardware, which reads correctly in photos and does not require standing in a freezer afterwards.
Shoes are the real decision
Glued soles come apart in this climate faster than anywhere else — the heat softens the adhesive and the rain finishes it. Stitched soles cost more and last several times longer.
Treat anything suede before its first wear or do not buy suede.
The aesthetic survives the climate fine. Your specific wardrobe might not, and that is a fabric problem rather than a commitment problem.
