The scene here is better than people from elsewhere assume. It is just shaped entirely by the weather and the distances, and both of those change how a night runs.
Everything is later than you think
Nothing meaningful happens before eleven, because until then it is still unpleasant to stand outside. Turning up at nine gets you an empty room and a confused bartender.
This also means the night ends much later. Plan the drive home before you start, not after.
It is always a drive
Orlando and Tampa both have nights worth going to, and 'worth going to' here means ninety minutes each way. Nobody local finds this strange.
Carpool if you can. Parking near anywhere good is its own event.
Dress for the venue, not the parking lot
The walk from the car is the worst part of the evening and it lasts four minutes. Do not sacrifice the outfit for it — bring a fan, accept the four minutes, fix your liner inside.
It takes more planning than a scene in a cold city. It is also, unexpectedly, friendlier.
